Clicker
Science Officer, Professor of Xenobiology [NPC]
Rank: Lieutenant
Species: "Borg tribble"

Clicker is one of the most unusual aliens in Starfleet.  He is a 6" (15.25 cm)-diameter ball of brown fur (roughly the size of a football) who moves by locomotion, or "rolls".  His real name, if he has one, is unknown, assuming it can even be written or pronounced.  He earned the name "Clicker" because of a peculiar clicking sound he makes, mostly when in motion, which he can also emit while stationary.  It is unknown what purpose this clicking serves, though he has been known to click excitedly when agitated or nervous, indicating an emotional stimulus.  Clicker's voice, as rendered via the universal translator, has a cymbal-like quality, like a soft cymbal note rising in pitch.  Any statement he makes ends with a sound resembling a <"TINK!">, not unlike tapping a cymbal with a drumstick.  One of Clicker's habits is that he rarely speaks unless someone else speaks to him first.  Little is known of Clicker's origins, other than that he hails from a colony of "Borg tribbles"–tribbles who evolved via an infusion of modified Borg nanoprobes.  This colony once occupied an unnamed planetoid, but has since relocated to Massachusetts.
Physically, on one "end" of Clicker's furry body is a pair of "optic orbs" which serve as eyes, attached to long, black, prehensile cords connected to his main body within the fur.  These optic sensors emit light in dark areas, allowing him to see.  On the same side is a fleshy black orifice which opens to unfold six apricot-hued "fingers" of a sort, arranged in a spider-leg pattern.  Tiny bony knobs, or "knuckles", are inserted into these appendages from within Clicker's body by reflexive action.  Once jointed, these fingers can hold and manipulate an array of small objects, from tricorders to phasers.  They also provide Clicker with the ability to wield his "sci-orb": a spherical device encased in a metallic gray, synthetic material, covered with swirling patterns of blinking lights.  This device is comparable to a tricorder and stored within Clicker's body.  He manifests it for special computations or data-gathering and seems to prefer it over a regular tricorder (perhaps because the orb device is kept within, unlike a standard tricorder which would not fit).
Clicker is intensely devoted to the pursuit of scientific knowledge and feels too much information is never enough.  Though his main area of expertise is Xenobiology (the study of alien forms of life), he dabbles in other areas of scientific interest as well and is quite intelligent.  He has served as the Chief of Arcadia's Sciences Department more than once.
